Judging the Canaan Dog

I have been a dog person forever, and have been working with, breeding and exhibiting dogs since 1967.  I have for many years run an active and successful boarding kennel, and done grooming, training, and behavior consultations. A few years ago, I closed the boarding kennel - lack of time and space, but still do behavior consults and give private lessons in "how to live successfully with your dog."

I have also been a professional consultant to veterinarians on nutrition and clinical nutrition for a number of years, and have worked for some years as an animal behavior research technician at Tel Aviv University, with dogs and with more exotic animals as well.

I write regularly for various periodicals in Israel and abroad, am a member of DWAA and WDPA, have had several books published (including "The Israel Canaan Dog", Alpine Pubs.), and lecture on a variety of subjects, including behavior, breed development, and, of course, the Canaan.  I have lectured extensively in Israel, and in England, Scotland, Finland, France, Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Germany, and the US.  I now lecture as a staff member at a school for dog trainers here in Israel, and work on special projects with service dogs.

My new book "Tails of Shaar Hagai" was published in November 2008 and is a memoir of my life with dogs and other animals, which has never been boring...!

The Canaans have fascinated me since I first met them in 1967, and I have never been without them since then.  I was personally acquainted with Prof. Menzel and studied in the last course she gave for the Israel Kennel Club for apprentice judges.  She was a fascinating woman and the things I learned from her were invaluable and unforgetable.  I try always to follow the criteria that she set for the breed.
